Everyone loves a good taco night but, recently, social media has been flooded with people trying their hands at making the popular Mexican Birria Tacos. A spicy yet flavourful dish, Birria Tacos usually has a goat stew filling, but it can be switched with beef, eel, chicken or even pork. Unlike your regular tacos, Birria Tacos need to be dipped in a stew and then have to be fried to get that perfectly juicy bite. While the original recipe is slightly complicated to make, the Internet has found yet another way to make it a lot easier. Thanks to TikTok user, Anna Paul, we can now make our favourite Mexican dish right at home.

Here is how you can make Birria Tacos without having to run to your favourite Mexican restaurant

You Will Need:

  • The meat of your choice
  • Bone Broth or Meat Stock
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Chillies
  • Carrots
  • Bay Leaves
  • Thyme
  • Cumin Powder
  • Cloves
  • Tomatoes
  • Tortilla

Instructions:

Step 1: Start off by cooking your choice of shredded meat in a hollow dish. Follow it up with some bone broth or meat stock and some water.

Step 2: Next, add an entire chopped onion and entire garlic along with some chopped carrots, bay leaves and thyme to add some additional flavour. Let it cook for an hour until the vegetables are soft.

Step 3: In a blender, add some tomatoes, bay leaves, dried chillies, cumin powder and cloves and blend them well. Once they are blended, add them to the pot and let it cook for at least three hours so that the meat and the vegetables can soak in the flavours well.

Step 4: While the sauce is being cooked, keep adding a little bit of water into the pan after every 40 minutes, this will make sure that the sauce is not too clumpy. Make sure to keep stirring it so that the texture is smooth.

Step 5: Once it’s cooked, take the meat out of the sauce and keep it in a bowl.

Step 6: Then, take a tortilla and dip it into the sauce. Make sure that it is properly coated and then place it on a pan and fry it.

Step 7: Once the tortilla is slightly crispy, add the cooked meat from the sauce with some cheese, pieces of chopped onions and coriander leaves and fold it in half. Let it be on the pan for a few seconds to get an additional layer of crispness. Serve it alongside a bowl of sauce and enjoy.
