The Barbie Teaser Is Here And There’s A Lot To Unpack!

After a hilarious first look inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and the many character posters, we’re finally blessed with a teaser for Barbie and it’s everything!

Ever since Greta Gerwig announced that she’s making a live-action Barbie movie, the anticipation has been sky-high. And if all these teasers and posters are to be believed, it’s not going to disappoint.

The new teaser gives us a glimpse of the pink and pristine utopic Barbieland, where Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) live, along with multiple other Barbies (Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, Alexandra Shipp and more) and Kens (played by Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir and more) and Allan (Michael Cera).

Barbie’s life is plastic and fantastic until it isn’t. Despite having a boyfriend who is head-over-heels for her and an existence where everyone breaks into song and dance spontaneously (at least that’s what it looks like), Barbie faces existential ennui that leads her to hop into her Corvette and heads out to the real world. With Ken, of course.

Gerwig has co-written the film with her husband, filmmaker Noah Baumbach, and based on their track record, the film is going to be a wild ride.

Aside from the Barbies and Kens, there are also real humans in the movie, played by Will Ferrell, Connor Swindells, America Ferrera, and Helen Mirren.

We might not have found out much about the plot from the nearly two-minute-long teaser but if there’s one thing we know for sure is that Ken doesn’t go anywhere without his rollerblades.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is set to release in theatres on July 21, 2023.
