Fans may have felt their favourite stars were robbed by not getting nominated for major awards this season but People’s Choice Awards lets, well, the people be the judge of deciding the best of the best in movies, music, pop culture and more.
This year, the awards included more categories and there were some surprises in store for K-pop fans of bands like BTS, Stray Kids, and Tomorrow X Together.
Hosted by Simu Liu, 2024 People’s Choice Awards was a big night for Barbie fans as the movie swept wins in major categories, including The Movie of the Year and The Comedy Movie of the Year. Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie also took home the Male and Female Movie Star of the Year for Barbie.
Actress America Ferrera also won the award for the Movie Performance of the Year for her work in the Greta Gerwig directorial. The other half of the 2023 phenomenon ‘Barbenheimer’, Oppenheimer, won the award for The Drama Movie of the Year.
Fan-favourite show Grey’s Anatomy won the Show of the Year Award. Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short-starrer Only Murders in the Building, too, made a mark by winning the Comedy Show of the Year award, with Gomez also bagging the award for Female TV Star of the Year. Pedro Pascal won the award for Male TV Star of the Year for HBO’s The Last of Us and the show also received the award for Drama Show of The Year.
On the music front, BTS’ Jungkook won the award for Male Artist of the Year and fellow K-pop stars, Stray Kids, won the Group/Duo of the Year trophy. Taylor Swift became the biggest winner of the night by winning Female Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, and Social Celebrity of the Year. Not just this, her Eras Tour won the Concert Tour of the Year award. Her boyfriend and recent Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce took home the Athlete of the Year award.
Adam Sandler was honoured with the 2024 People’s Icon Award, presented to him by frequent collaborator Jennifer Anniston. The comedy actor gave a hilarious speech onstage about confusing the honour with PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive.
Lenny Kravitz, who won the award for 2024 People’s Music Icon Award, performed a medley of his biggest hits on stage.
