It’s Friday and it happens to be the 13th today. You know what that means. It’s time to get into spooky mode and ditch all your plans in favour of curling up on the couch and binge-watching something that will not let you sleep peacefully at night.

While we’ve already covered the movies you can pick for the unofficial holiday, this Friday the 13th we decided to round up all the underrated scary TV shows you can binge for a spooky evening.

From shows with supernatural monsters to psychological thrillers, here are a few terrifying TV shows that you should watch tonight…

The Haunting of Bly Manor

The second instalment of Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting anthology series, this one is an adaptation of Henry James’ 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. In the show, a young American au pair starts living at the eponymous countryside manor to look after the family’s two children. Little does she know that the manor is haunted.

This anthology horror series is not your average scary TV show. Different characters encounter different otherworldly creatures in every episode while dealing with real-world human emotions like grief, loss, guilt, and loneliness.

Lovecraft Country

Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, this one is set in the 1950s and follows the journey of an African-American man as he travels across the racially charged country in search of his father. Turns out, bigots are not the only terrifying thing he would have to face on his journey.

One of the first Netflix India Originals, the show is set in a dystopian India where fascism is at its peak. The miniseries follows a series of horrifying supernatural events that terrorise a secret government internment camp where a dreaded terrorist is being detained and interrogated.

If you’re a fan of Stephen King’s works then you cannot miss Castle Rock. The psychological horror series features characters, settings, and themes inspired by King’s novels. It’s set in the titular fictional town which has been created by the author.

Another Mike Flanagan horror show, Midnight Mass follows a mysterious priest who joins an impoverished island community. It becomes clear immediately that things are not what they seem, especially when inexplicable supernatural events start plaguing the town.

Hellbound

The show knocked global favourite Squid Game from the top spot on Netflix when it was released. Based on the webtoon of the same name, the show deals with the morally complex subject of hell and heaven. In the show, terrifying supernatural creatures begin to appear out of nowhere to drag the condemned to hell.

This K-drama follows a detective, a Catholic priest, and a psychic as they join forces to fight crime caused by supernatural entities. While the premise sounds like it would make for a fun comedy, the show is dark and not for the faint of heart.

Brand New Cherry Flavor

The show is based on an eponymous novel by Todd Grimson and follows a young woman who comes to LA to direct her film. Things immediately go South for her when she trusts the wrong man and sets off a series of supernatural events involving zombies, supernatural kittens, and dangerous hitmen.
