They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, and they’re also getting another live-action TV series focused on them *snaps fingers twice*.

While that didn’t quiet land the way we hoped it would, we can guarantee that won’t be the case with the news of a whole new live-action The Addams Family series, focussed on the sadistic, and death-obsessed Addams girl, Wednesday.

Netflix and Tim Burton have come together to create a TV series featuring the story of Wednesday Addams, simply titled Wednesday.

The kooky and spooky family were introduced to the world back in 1938 and, since then, have taken many forms (both live-action and animated) throughout the years, most notable ones being the feature films in the ’90s with Angelica Huston as Morticia Addams and Christina Ricci as Wednesday.

This time around, 19-year-old Jenna Ortega has taken on the mantle of playing the poster girl for all things gothic. The Jane the Virgin actress was announced as a pick for the titular character back in May 2021, with Ortega confirming the news with an Instagram post of her holding the pilot’s script.

The streaming platform shared her transformation into the charcater recently, showing Ortega in Wednesday’s signature white-collared, long-sleeved black dress, paired with long braided pigtails, pale complexion, and a gaunt expression.

Here is everything we know about the upcoming live-action TV seriesWednesday

What will Wednesday be about?

As mentioned earlier, the show will focus on Wednesday Addams’ story. It is said to be a unique mix of genres, including fantasy, horror, mystery, and comedy. But the makers have insisted that the show is, first and foremost, a coming-of-age story. The eight-episodes long series will revolve around her years as a student at the Nevermore Academy. Here’s what the official synopsis says, “Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Who all will be in Wednesday?

Aside from Ortega, the show will star Catherine Zeta-Jones as the matriarch Morticia Addams and Narcos star Luis Guzmán as her doting husband and Wednesday’s father Gomez Addams. Other cast members include Gwendoline Christie, Isaac Ordonez, Riki Lindhome, Thora Birch, Jamie McShane,Hunter Drohan, and Moosa Mostafa. Christina Ricci will also be a part of the show in a yet-to-be-disclosed role, however the makers have confirmed she won’t star as older version of Wednesday Addams in this series.

When will we be able to watch Wednesday?

While Netflix hasn’t confirmed an exact date for the release of the show, it has revealed that it would be available for streaming in fall 2022. So it could be the perfect Halloween treat for all the show’s lovers.
