If you recall, the South Korean TV show followed a bunch of down-on-their-luck people competing in a series of deadly challenges inspired by old children’s games for a large cash prize. The first season ends with the protagonist Gi-hun winning and vowing to destroy the people who created the ghastly games.

The series made history by not only becoming a huge global hit on the OTT platform but also by winning the Emmy awards in the main categories, including Best Lead Actor and Best Director.

Back in 2022, Squid Game director and writer Hwand Dong-hyuk confirmed that the massively popular show is getting a new season and, finally, we have the first look with a short teaser and images from the second season.

Since it’s been nearly two years since we left the show, there are bound to be some questions about the new season: Will Gi-hun manage to get revenge on the Squid Game creators for all the horrors they unleashed on desperate poor people? Is Jun-ho alive and will he continue his investigation into the Games even after knowing the identity of the Frontman? Will Gong Yoo slap more people?

We might not have all the answers to the aforementioned questions yet but here’s everything we know about the Squid Game season 2.

What is Squid Game Season 2 going to be about?

According to Netflix, Gi-hun abandons his plans to leave Korea “after a mysterious call and embarks on a chase with a motive”. The director had stated previously in an interview that the theme of the first season would “all naturally extend” to the second season.

In the short teaser shared by Netflix, we see a red-haired Gi-hun at the airport where a voice on the phone menacingly threatens him saying, “You’ll regret your decision”. Gi-hun remains unfazed as he answers with a threat of his own, “I will find you. No matter what it takes”.

Who is going to be in Squid Game Season 2?

It’s safe to say that Lee Jung-jae (who plays Gi-hun) and Lee Byung-hun (who plays the Frontman) are returning for the new season. The makers’ statements and the newly released stills from the second season of the show confirm that Wi Ha-joon (who plays Detective Hwang Jun-ho) and Gong Yoo (who plays the Recruiter) are also back. There are some new additions to the cast, including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, and Park Gyu-young.

The show’s director has also confirmed that we’ll be meeting Cheol-su in the new season. In case you don’t know, Cheol-su is Young-hee’s (the giant murderous doll from the ‘Red Light-Green Light’ game from the first season) boyfriend in season two.
