From watching people recreate a romance that seems straight out of a K-drama to being a fly on the wall in your favourite celebrity’s life, it’s about to get raw, real and risqué on Netflix in the upcoming months.
At an exclusive showcase in Seoul, the OTT giant unveiled its latest slate of Asian unscripted content. If Japan has an appetite for quirky reality shows and sketch comedies, Korean viewers love variety and dating shows. When it comes to the Indian audience, nothing works better than Bollywood!
According to a spokesperson at Netflix, the unscripted shows cover a broad and diverse category of content, including reality and variety shows, comedy sketches, and docuseries.
Nearly 75% of viewers across Korea, Japan, and India watched unscripted content in 2022. The genre finds resonance since it deals with real people in real-life situations. Tanya Bami, Netflix India’s Director of Content Series, says the growing interest in unscripted content in India, had led the platform to ideate on their creative strategies.

An interesting aspect this time is that none of the participants can reveal their age or professional backgrounds! The show appealed to the viewers for the raw and candid emotions on display. After two successful seasons, its third edition promises to be hotter, with several twists and turns.

The visual motif of the white plaster torso became synonymous with South Korea’s popular survival series Physical 100 and now it’s back with a new theme, higher stakes, and a more diverse cast of contestants. If you recall, 100 participants, including men and women, take part in gruelling challenges to show who had the best physique of them all. The show’s creator Jang Ho-gil tells us that the current season will have “strong and amazing” female participants. After last season’s theme of ancient Greece, this time the time period is the 1950s and 60s.

The 12 cast members include Problematic Men star Ha Seok-jin, actress and inventor Lee Si Won (who owns more than 10 patents!), and K-pop group SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan, who is well-known for his variety show skills and wit. If these celebrities manage to crack this survival show that is riddled with mind games, they can take home whopping 500 million Korean won (a little over INR 3 crores!) in prize money. The show has been created by Jeong Jong-yeon, known for his previous works such as Great Escape, and High School Mystery Club.
