If you’re a true blue romantic (or a fairly obsessed romantic comedy fan), then you’d know the importance of a good meet-cute. For the uninitiated, meet-cute is a concept when you meet your special someone for the first time and you can literally feel the sparks fly. Whether it’s falling into their arms or meeting them for the first time in a movie theatre, if the circumstance you met your loved one is funny, sweet, or even amusing, you just had your meet-cute moment!

Need more clarity? Here are some of our favourite meet-cutes from romantic-comedies over the years...

Jab We Met (2007)

Meeting a stranger who not only talks your ear off but also saves your life? now that’s a meet-cute! Jab We Met is an iconic Bollywood rom-com that has given us countless one-liners to practice when feeling down on self-love. When the bubbly, extroverted Geet runs into the serious and extroverted Aditya, sparks were bound to fly. While at the beginning of the film, they aren’t romantically into each other, fate ties them together and takes them along an adventurous journey that finally brings them together.

Main Hoon Na (2004)

Imagine you were dared to sing a romantic song while standing on your knees for the first person who walks through the gates of your university, only to find yourself singing the song to one of the most beautiful women you have ever seen. The only con of this grand gesture is that there are chances of that beautiful lady being your college professor. This is exactly what happens with Ram and Chandni in Main Hoon Na! Even though Ram was technically not her student, he tries his best to be discreet about his feelings for Chandni (as well as he could!), it only takes a stray bullet almost hitting her for their true feelings to come out in the open!

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

Having a love at first sight moment while working in your family restaurant is as rare as it sounds. When Toula met the charming high-school teacher Ian, she instantly knew that he was the one but she missed out on the opportunity to approach him, only to find him showing up at her office this time, Ian has his ‘love at first sight’ moment. But when the couple finally decided to get married, they need to pass a few Greek road blocks to reach the alter, promising to take us on an heartwarming and hilarious journey.

Break Ke Baad (2010)

Meeting the love of your life in your childhood while watching your favourite Bollywood film in the theatre is as good as it gets. Aaliya and Abhay were the childhood sweethearts we wished we had. As time passes and they grow older and evolve as individuals, they soon start to drift apart, but as they say, true love like that always finds its way back, just like Aaliya and Abhay did.

The Wedding Planner (2001)

The ultimate meet-cute moment is when the girl falls in the arms of a man, only to get lost in his eyes and literally feel the fireworks. When Mary’s heel gets stuck in a manhole, she finds herself in the danger of getting hit by a dumpster but thanks to charming doctor Steve who jumps in right on time and rescues Mary and heels! The two share an instant connection, but romance can’t be that easy, as Mary soon finds out Steve is actually on her clients, whose wedding she is planning. Yikes!

Notting Hill (1999)

When famous movie star Anna Scott walks into a cosy book store in Notting Hill, the owner of the store, William Thacker is immediately struck by her. While their first meeting didn’t bring in the sparks, their second meeting, even though it involved bumping into the star only to spill orange juice all over her, the pair felt an instant connection that could not be denied. Experiencing love that is easy is almost impossible even for this starry-eyed couple as they go through their ups and downs due to their very different lives. But after all, if a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her, you know it's the end game.
