We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It helps you kickstart your morning and experts agree that skipping it is not a good idea, especially if you’re trying to eat healthily.

While there are many delicious and healthy options you can whip up every morning for your breakfast, scientists at the Peking University in Beijing have discovered that having eggs as a part of your breakfast every day improves your heart’s health by leaps and bounds.

The study, published in eLife journal, reveals that there’s a strong link between heart health and egg consumption. We all know that eggs are a great source of nutrition as they’re packed with high-quality protein, Vitamin B, D and tonnes of antioxidants. According to this study, having a moderate amount of eggs every day will boost the levels of the good kind of cholesterol in the body.

“Few studies have looked at the role that plasma cholesterol metabolism plays in the association between egg consumption and the risk of cardiovascular diseases, so we wanted to help address this gap,” writes first author Lang Pan, MSc at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Peking University.

Lang Pan and his team selected 4,778 participants for the study, out of which 3401 had pre-existing heart conditions and 1377 did not. They discovered that the people who ate eggs every day had higher levels of a protein called apolipoprotein A1. this protein is supposed to be a good lipoprotein that serves as a building block for High-Density Lipoproteins (HDL). These HDL molecules help in the clearing of arteries from any cholesterol present, thus reducing the risks of heart attacks or strokes.

The researchers claim that it would take more investigation to figure out the right amount of eggs to consume every single day for these results, but one egg a day is a fair quantity.

What delicious ways are you going to include eggs in your diet now?
