After months of speculation and anticipation, some of our favourite stars descended in their custom-made finery on the red carpet for the 2024 Met Gala.
The dress for the gala this year, ‘The Garden of Time’, invoked ethereal images that could be interpreted by celebrities (and their formidable team of stylists) in different ways for the red carpet and we weren’t disappointed!
After an impeccable run during the promotion of her movies recently, Zendaya decided to turn heads with not just one but two stunning looks for the night. The co-host of the gala teamed up with her style soulmate Law Roach and picked a custom Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano which was inspired by the designer’s Spring 1999 collection for Dior paired with a Philip Tracey headpiece. The Challengers actress also wore a Givenchy Spring 1996 couture gown topped by a floral headpiece from Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2007 collection by Philip Tracey.
Florals for Spring might not be groundbreaking but the way the attendees interpreted the theme added another dimension to the classic trend. Take Alia Bhatt and Isha Ambani, for instance, who highlighted the works of two celebrated Indian couturiers through their appearance on the iconic red carpet.
For her second Met Gala stint, Alia Bhatt wore a sari by Sabyasachi with an extended 30-foot trail that featured hand-embroidered precious stones and beadwork and took about 1965 man hours to create.
Isha Ambani went with Rahul Mishra for her ‘Garden of Time’ interpretation in a hand-embroidered couture sari gown by the designer. The look incorporated elements from Rahul Mishra’s older collections and highlighted several Indian craft techniques.
