These Are The Best Beauty Looks Spotted At The 2023 Met Gala

The fashion world eagerly awaits the first Monday of May each year for its most highly-anticipated event, the Met Gala. It is a night filled with unforgettable fashion statements, where every detail from hair, make-up, and nails is scrutinised and admired.
This year’s Costume Institute exhibition, ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,’ was a fitting tribute to the late fashion icon. The beauty department did not disappoint, with a stunning array of looks ranging from cat eyes and classic Hollywood glamour to bold experimentation with colour on the lips and lids—Met Gala 2023 was undoubtedly one of the most impressive yet in terms of beauty.
Don’t just take our word for it, though. See for yourself the beauty looks that graced the red (or rather, champagne) carpet, from Alia Bhatt to Anne Hathaway and all of our other favourite celebrities.

Penelope Cruz
Cruz exuded a bridal chic vibe, adorning her low bun with a long, flowing white veil. Her make-up was expertly done by the renowned Charlotte Tilbury, who opted for a classic smokey eye and a bare lip, perfectly complementing the actress’s ethereal look at the Met Gala as co-chair.

Dua Lipa
Lipa went the more understated route, keeping her long hair cascading down her back with subtle make-up. She looked like a princess with glossy waves, creamy rose lipstick, and a shimmery cat-eye flick that was perfectly done by none other than Dame Pat McGrath.

Emily Ratajkowski
Ratajkowski showcased her signature style with a sultry smokey eye and a nude lip for her make-up at the Met Gala. Her luscious curls were pulled back into a stylish ponytail and accessorised with a chic velvet bow, paying homage to Karl’s iconic Chanel aesthetic with a modern twist.

Michaela Cole
Cole’s hair stole the show, as she donned intricate cornrows with a stunning gold leaf detail at the back, perfectly complementing her embellished dress at the Met Gala. To balance the look, she kept her makeup classic with defined eyes achieved through black eyeliner, completing her striking appearance.

Naomi Campbell
Looking as regal as ever, Campbell wore her dark hair long and sleek down her back and kept her makeup minimal with a soft pink lip to match her sari-inspired archival Chanel look.

Doja Cat
Leave it Doja Cat to show up as Lagerfeld’s #1 — Choupette. The rapper went all out in cat-like prosthetics and a flick of feline-inspired liner.

Billie Eilish
The ‘Happier Than Ever’ songstress stunned as a gothic queen at the Met Gala, with her black locks parted down the middle and fashioned into a stunning, intricate braid intertwined with satin fabric. The braid seamlessly blended into her dress, making it almost impossible to tell where it ended, further elevating her mysterious and alluring look for the evening.

Emma Chamberlain
Chamberlain returned for another year at the gala as a special correspondent in a periwinkle ensemble with a matching plush headband. Her brown hair was parted down the middle and slicked back, flowing behind her. She paired her pastel outfit with blue smokey eye makeup and a nude peach lip.

Alia Bhatt
Bhatt made a striking Met Gala debut in a custom Prabal Gurung couture that exuded a vision of white elegance. The pearl bodice, adorned with an idiosyncratic bejewelled fingerless glove, paid tribute to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. The star’s beauty choice reflected her less-is-more signature style, with makeup artist Puneet Saini opting for a dewy and flawless complexion, subtle blush, kohl-lined eyes, and a perfect nude lip, proving that natural makeup can shine on even the most opulent of carpets. A polarised hair parting pulled back with a bejewelled bow detail elevated the look even further to exude a classic Karl bride aesthetic.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Makeup artist Sarah Tanno channelled the words of Karl himself in creating Chopra’s stunning look for the Met Gala, stating “I love classic beauty. It’s an idea of beauty with no standard.” The star’s makeup perfectly captured the late designer’s beauty ideals, with flawless skin, fluffy lashes, rose-toned lips and cheeks, and a classic winged liner. To complement the makeup, a creatively twisted top knot with a semi-puff in the front was tied together by a black ribbon, bringing the entire look together in true Karl fashion.

Isha Ambani
Ambani’s beauty choices for the Met Gala leaned towards a more natural yet luxurious look, with makeup artist Tanvi Chemburkar creating a dewy foundation base that was topped with bronzer and contour, finished with a perfectly kohled eye line and a stunning brown lip. For her hair, hairstylist Yianni Tsapatori accentuated her natural hair texture and styled it into flowing waves that exuded a goddess-like charm, perfectly complementing her overall look for the evening.

Natasha Poonawalla
Poonawalla struck the perfect balance with her structural silver gown by opting for a glass-like makeup look, featuring long black eyeliner strokes, nude lips, and a mid-rise ponytail held together with a metallic silver bow that featured a dangling ribbon along the tresses. The entire look was nothing short of brilliant, emphasising the star’s elegance and sophistication at the Met Gala.

Jennie Kim
The Chanel ambassador and Blackpink member proved less is more with clean skin, classic black liner, and a muted nude lip.

Anne Hathaway
We think Anne Hathaway’s retro half-up hairstyle, glossy nude lip, and dramatic winged shadow would make Miranda Priestly proud. “The look features a Chanel-inspired hair camellia, a flower made out of hair, from a show I once did in the mid-90s,” shared Hathaway’s hair stylist Orlando Pita. “I had kept this from the show and thought it was the perfect opportunity to include in her look to honour tonight’s theme.”

Grace Elizabeth
The model’s hair and makeup at the Met Gala were nothing short of a work of art, leaving us mesmerised. With pearl-studded hair, ears, and skin, and Euphoria-esque pink glitter-sparkle eyes, it was a stunning sight to behold.

Sydney Sweeney
Sweeney’s beauty look at the Met Gala was all about retro vibes, inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, Claudia Schiffer. With megawatt volume in her hair and almost Twiggy-like bottom lashes, the actress perfectly channelled the iconic ‘60s look. The overall effect was both glamorous and playful.

Gigi Hadid
Hadid’s understated beauty look at the Met Gala with eye jewels and a pulled-back half-up hairstyle left us wanting to copy it.

Alexandra Daddario
Daddario’s beauty look at the Met Gala was on-trend with angelic face and eye jewels, combined with a sweep of peach and pink over her eyes and cheeks.
