Inside Bruce Willis’ First Birthday Post His Dementia Diagnosis

Actress Demi Moore took to social media to share a touching tribute dedicated to her former spouse, Hollywood star Bruce Willis. The heartfelt post commemorated Willis’ first birthday following his recent dementia diagnosis. Demi and Bruce, who are proud parents to their three beloved daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, exchanged vows in 1987 but parted ways in 2000.

The past weekend witnessed a glimpse into the intimate 68th birthday celebration of the Die Hard star, courtesy of Moore. The actress took to her Instagram handle to share a wholesome video that showcased the festivities involving Willis, his present wife Emma Heming Willis, their daughters, and other close-knit family members.

In the video, Willis’ loved ones can be heard singing “Happy Birthday” to him, after which he blows out the candles on his birthday pie. Moore captioned the clip with a heartfelt message expressing her love for Willis and their family and thanking everyone for their warm wishes.

Demi’s daughter Rumer also shared a similar video on her Instagram handle and captioned it as “Happy Birthday Daddio. I love you to the (moon emoticon). You are so cool.”

Earlier that day, Heming Willis posted a candid message about caring for someone with dementia, expressing her feelings of grief and sadness. The couple has been married since 2009 and has two daughters—Mabel and Evelyn.

“I’m not given a choice,” she said. “I wish I was, but I’m also raising two kids in this. So sometimes in our lives, we have to put our big girl panties on and get to it. I do have times of sadness, every day.” She added, “Grief, every day. And I’m really feeling it today on his birthday.”

Bruce’s other daughter Scout Willis further honoured her father on Instagram with a photo of her as a little girl on his shoulders, with her resting her head on her dad’s head.

“Today is not necessarily an easy day, because it’s a day full of so deep love, and our grief really does show us the depth of our love for someone,” she wrote, in part. “So I’m trying to be with both today. Grief is a price I’ll always pay to know what it is to feel such love.”

In March 2022 Bruce Willis’ family disclosed that the celebrated actor’s speech disorder, aphasia, had advanced into a form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia (FTD). In a recent online update, the family shared that there are no known treatments for FTD and are determined to raise awareness and funds to support research on the disease.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, FTD refers to a cluster of conditions that lead to a progressive loss of nerve cells in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain.
