Selena Gomez Married Herself On Her 30th Birthday

Superstar Selena Gomez apparently walked herself down the aisle to mark the occasion of her milestone birthday in July. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Gomez admitted that she “threw herself a wedding” and turned her 30th birthday party into a celebration of self-love and confidence.

The Only Murders in the Building actress thought her “world was over” when she wasn’t married by her mid-20s, she revealed.

“I grew up thinking I would be married at 25,” the ‘Rare’ singer shared with Rolling Stone for a profile published last week. “It wrecked me that I was nowhere near that—couldn’t be farther from it. It was so stupid, but I really thought my world was over.”

Instead of waiting for “the one” to magically appear and save her, Gomez revealed that she took matters into her own hands and gave herself a solo wedding party when she hit 30, with several high profile guests in attendance. The pop star invited some of her loved ones, including her sister, Gracie, Francia Raísa, Olivia Rodrigo, Camila Cabello and Miley Cyrus.

Gomez even let her fans in on some of the details of her ‘wedding’ and shared that the occasion also included a Barney cake, red roses, dancing, and an unexpected surprise courtesy of supermodel Cara Delevingne. According to Gomez, Cara arranged for strippers, turning the bash into a “mixture of sophisticated and hysterical.”

Back in July, Gomez let us all have a peek at her gorgeous pink birthday ‘fit. She shared Instagram photos from her celebration, including a photo captured while she was descending the stairs, dazzling in a pink Versace gown.

The birthday also featured a heartwarming reunion with BFF Taylor Swift. The fan-favourite duo had posed for a social media post, with Selena writing, “30, nerdy, and worthy.”

After enjoying her hilarious solo nuptials, which served some serious lessons in self-love, acceptance and not taking yourself too seriously, Gomez reflected on turning 30 and spoke about the lessons she has learnt so far. In an Instagram post, she had written, “My twenties were a journey through good, hard, and beautiful moments that I will never forget. Each of them has shaped me into the person that I am today. I am someone who is still learning, but is more certain about what matters and what she wants.”

The actress expressed her gratitude and joy and wrote, “After a few days of celebrating, my heart feels full, grateful and I can say that I’m starting to really like 30. Thank you SO much for being a part of my life, here’s to another decade! Love you all inside and out so much it hurts!”

The Rolling Stone interview was released shortly after the release of Gomez’s new Apple TV+ documentary. My Mind & Me showcases further details of her personal life, including her struggles with illness, mental health issues and the perils of fame.
