Great news for fans of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1! We don’t have to wait long before continuing on with the story of the Chola Empire as the second instalment of the series has a mini teaser and a release date!

PS2 Release Date

Lyca Productions recently shared a short preview of PS2, which also revealed the release date of the upcoming movie, which is going to be April 28, 2023.

In the teaser we can see Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) sitting in front of a Kali statue, seemingly seething in anger (which TBF, he has a lot of reasons for, what with his brother being presumed dead at the orders of his former crush). We also see Arulmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) walking amongst a crowd and Vandhiyathevan (Karthi) sitting in a forest, wounded and scarred. If you recall from PS1, the fate of the two remained unknown as they drowned in the raging sea after a thrilling face-off with the Pandiya fleet.

Before the preview ends, we get a glimpse of Nandini (Aishwarya Rai), confirming that the sequel will delve more into her past and the possible connection to her lookalike Oomai Rani (who apparently successfully rescued the two drowning warriors).

The movie series is based on the 1955 Tamil novel of the same name by Kalki Krishnamurthy and tells the fictionalised story of the rise of the great Rajaraja I of the Chola Empire.

The movie also stars Trisha, Prakash Raj, Kishore, and Sobhita Dhulipala.

How excited are you for the sequel?
