HELLO!: How would you best describe the word ‘style’?
Chetan Jaikishan: “It’s the unique way in which you express your personality.”
H!: Fashion is ever-evolving—how does your wardrobe remain current while still being true to your sense of style?
CJ: “I’m proud to wear clothes that have been in my wardrobe for years. If you choose well, there’s no reason why your clothes should not stand the test of time.”
H!: Brands that a man simply cannot go wrong with?
CJ: “I’m currently obsessed with [Ralph Lauren] Double RL. And Gucci does great formalwear. Church’s for shoes that last a lifetime; and J. Lindeberg on the golf course.”
H!: Four items every man should invest in?
CJ: “Get the best shoes you can, a pair of jeans that fit well and a crisp white shirt. But the best investment in life is a touch of kindness.”
H!: An heirloom that’s been passed on to you that you’ll forever cherish?
CJ: “My dad [music composer Jaikishan]’s chain, I’ve always worn it…”
H!: Can you elaborate on the importance of formalwear in an age where athleisure and sneakers are king…
CJ: “Athleisure is popular primarily because it’s comfortable. But with the right fit, formalwear can and should be comfortable to wear as well.”
H!: A message to the younger generation about manners and style?
CJ: “Impeccable manners are a must, style is inherent.”
H!: What, according to you, will never go out of style?
CJ: “A sense of humour!”
H!: One thing you never leave home without?
CJ: “My mobile phone. It would be impossible to function without it.”
H!: Men whom you admire for their style?
CJ: “David Beckham, Ralph Lauren and Brad Pitt.”
H!: What does ‘living well’ mean to you?
CJ: “As Ralph Lauren put it: “It’s about living the best life you can and enjoying the fullness of the life around you—from what you wear, to the way you live, to the way you love.”
