Squid Game Season 2 Is Officially Happening And Here’s Everything We Know So Far…

Everyone’s favourite show about rich people being the absolute worst is officially coming back with a second season. Last year, Netflix’s K-dramaSquid Game became one of the most-watched and talked about shows, clocking in 1.65 billion hours of viewing in just four weeks of its release.

Recently the streaming giant announced that the show’s second season is coming soon and we’d get the answers we’ve been waiting for ever since the first one ended. For instance, will Gi-hun avenge the senseless murder of his fellow players? Is Jun-ho alive? Why did Jun-ho’s brother become the Front Man? Why do I want to see Gong Yoo slap more people?

In case you need a refresher, the show is about Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) who is in desperate need for some money when he comes across an invitation to play a game and win a huge amount of money. It seems too good to be true that he just has to compete with a few hundred other contestants in a series of children’s games to win 45.6 billion Korean won, and he is proven right when he realises that the people who fail at the games are getting murdered in cold blood.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director, writer, and executive producer of the show said, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout-out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

A teaser for the show recalls the ‘red light-green light’ game that the fictional contestants play in the show as they realise the intensely high stakes of the game. Whether it means that we’ll see another round of helpless, down-on-their-luck folks battle it out in the Squid Game, is something we’d have to wait and see.

The makers have already confirmed that the two main, and only surviving, characters from the show Gi-hun and the Front Man, will be returning for the second season. The director has also revealed that we would meet “Young-hee’s boyfriend Cheol-su” this season. Young-hee, if you would recall, is the giant doll from the ‘red light-green light’ game that became one of the most enduring memories from the show. Her love life is, apparently, going stronger than most of us, good on her.

The makers have not revealed the release date information yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
