Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news of the second season of the South Korean TV series Squid Game and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has a little nugget of an update for the masses.

Following the huge and unprecedented success of the series, the creators confirmed that the show would be returning for a second season, something which is not a norm with most K-dramas. However, information on the upcoming season has been pretty scarce, with most of it being fan speculations and theories about the future of the characters.

But there might be a light on the bleak horizon because Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that two cast members will definitely be returning for the next season. In an interview with Deadline, the creator said, “Gi-hun, for sure, will be back, and I believe the Front Man will be back too.”

Hwang is referring to SAG Award winner Lee Jung-jae, who played the role of protagonist Gi-hun in the series and Lee Byung-hun, who was the man behind the mask, AKA the Frontman.

This, however, comes as no surprise because these were the only two major characters that managed to survive the brutal finale of the series. Hwang also confirmed that viewers can expect the show to hit Netflix by the end of 2024, so you can let go of that breath you’ve been holding for the new season’s release date.
