If you can legitimately say that you’re one of the handful of people who have actually stepped on the moon and walked on its surface then you should be allowed a few quirks, no questions asked. Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon recently sent the Internet into a confused frenzy after sharing a photo of himself wearing three watches.
The former NASA astronaut shared a picture of himself eating a hearty breakfast to commemorate the 54th anniversary of his Apollo 11 lunar mission.

In the photo, people noticed that Aldrin was wearing not one but three watches on his wrists.
Naturally, this led to many people wondering what could be the reason behind the 93-year-old wearing three watches.
boy if you had asked me earlier today how many watches buzz aldrin usually wears i would have been confidently mistaken https://t.co/9mTNSV18xS

As it turns out, it’s not some secret dress code only people who’ve been to the moon follow. It’s just a plain old quirk.
In an old interview published on his website, Aldrin clarifies the reason behind the multiple watches. “See, you need an odd number (of watches) in case there is a discrepancy so you can sort out which one is what.”
In the photo, two out of the three watches are Omega’s commemorative Moonwatch and Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer. On the lunar mission, Aldrin famously wore an Omega Speedmaster Professional which he later donated to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.
