With Twice selling out stadiums across the world and Blackpink being the best part about Coachella this year, it’s safe to say that K-pop girl groups are taking over the world.

Groups like Twice, Blackpink, Mamamoo, and Red Velvet have paved the way for more and more girl groups from South Korea to make their mark on the world with their unique music and aesthetic.

With each new release, these iconic groups redefine what it means to be a K-pop idol and create an even better space for new girl groups to follow. Between 2022 and 2023, we saw a number of rookie girl groups debut with tracks that blew our minds. So it came as no surprise when these new artists skyrocketed to the top of the charts and swept awards with their songs, each increasingly catchy than the last.

If you’re new to the world of K-pop, or even if you’re a veteran, take a look at our list of some of the newest girl groups that we’ve been loving recently.

K-pop Girl Groups That We Are Loving In 2023

Ive

This six-member group became one to watch out for ever since they released their first single ‘Love Dive’ which went on to win them their first Daesang (grand prize) for Best Song of the Year 2022.

Le Sserafim

The first girl group to debut under Hybe, the parent company of groups like BTS and TXT, Le Sserafim have proven that there’s nobody doing it like them. After their strong debut single ‘Fearless’, inspired by their name which is an anagram of the phrase ‘I’m Fearless’, the group released ‘Antifragile’, a song that went viral thanks to the countless Reels and TikToks. BTS members RM and Jungkook are also fans of the track.

NMIXX

The group was created by SQU4D, a sub-label of Twice’s parent company JYP Entertainment, and made its debut in February 2022. While their first release, ‘0.0’ garnered mixed reactions, they solidified their place as a group to look out for with their track ‘Dice’ later that year.

NewJeans

Who amongst us has not heard, and tried to dance to, NewJeans’ ‘Hype Boy’? Hybe’s second girl group made a groundbreaking debut with their song ‘Attention’ which was released, uncharacteristically, without any fanfare. With millions of streams and views on different platforms, the group is definitely here to stay.

Fifty Fifty

There would be hardly a single person alive who hasn’t heard of Fifty Fifty’s Cupid. The song and its English language remix had TikTok and Instagram Reels in a chokehold ever since it debuted last November. The quartet debuted under the new label Attrakt and became the fastest K-pop group to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 within four months of their debut.

CSR

The seven-member group is comprised solely of 17-year-olds, a first in the industry. According to the company, their songs will tell the story of the members growing year by year, giving us a one-of-its-kind coming-of-age sound experience. Their name is an abbreviation of the Korean word Chaeotsarang, which means first love.

X:In

This five-member multinational group debuted in April and has gained popularity for its fresh sound. One of the members, the maknae (or youngest), is Aria, an Indian singer and actress who has become a favourite of fans around the world.
