If you’re someone who loves watching K-dramas or knows someone who does, then there’s a good chance that you’ve stumbled upon Radhika Bangia’s content on Instagram.

The actress who was recently seen alongside Ranveer Singh and Pooja Hegde in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus (2022) has made a name for herself as a lifestyle content creator on Instagram. She regularly treats her (over) two million followers to mini-comedy sketches and insights into her life as a lover of all things Korean, whether it’s the TV shows or K-pop idols.

“I’ve always been very familiar with Korean culture because my childhood best friend is Korean,” said Bangia, as she sat down for a quick chat with HELLO! recently, “I used to watch Korean movies when I was in school but then life happened and I got really busy and I lost touch with all that. During COVID I was really bored and I came across a K-drama on Netflix and I was hooked!”

Like most of the world, Bangia’s first K-drama crush was actor Lee Min-ho, whose drama The King: Eternal Monarch acted as a gateway to the world of Korean TV shows and cinema. “I watched everything he is in after that. Once I ran out of shows starring him, I began exploring other dramas. That’s how my love for K-dramas grew!”

The actress credits the engaging storylines and superlative performances by talented actors for the enduring popularity of K-dramas across the world. Then there are also the varied genres available.

“There’s something for everyone!” she says, adding that the biggest misconception about K-dramas is that it’s only about romance and melodrama.

Bangia echoes Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s sentiment and says that once people get used to reading subtitles, they’ll be exposed to a wonderful world of content.
