The first full trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is here and it’s safe to say that our expectations are sky-high now. The latest preview has given fans a deeper look into Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) journey post the events of Avengers: Endgame and a brand new villain in the form of Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher.
The trailer opens with Korg (voiced by director Taika Waititi) narrating Thor’s extraordinary story, explaining how he went from ‘dad bod’ to ‘God bod’. But just when the God of Thunder thought that all will be well now, he gets a blast from the past with his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) returning with gigantic, muscular arms and an ability to wield Mjolnir, Thor’s cosmic-powered hammer.
MCU’s latest world-destroying villain is Gorr the God Butcher (Bale) who hates Gods and that doesn’t spell well for the God of Thunder as you can tell by Gorr’s job title. Bale looks appropriately terrifying in a Voldemort-cosplay (he has his nose, though) and poses credible threat to both Thor and Foster.
The new trailer makes it clear that Waititi is making sure we don’t forget the brilliance of Thor: Ragnarok, with quirkier characters, storylines that we rarely see in the MCU, and Gorr facing off against the main heroes in a black-and-white segment. Oh and we’re also getting naked Thor in this one, all thanks to Zeus (Russel Crowe), so there’s that!
Thor: Love and Thunder will release in theaters on July 8, 2022.
