The first edition of HELLO! India Art Awards honored and celebrated the best of the best in the art landscape of India.

Preceding the India Art Fair 2022, the awards felicitated and appreciated the works of both established artists and upcoming talent. It also recognised new media, individual and group exhibitions, galleries, and every other domain of artistic excellence in the country at the moment.

“India and its people have inherited a very prolific art legacy which is kept alive both by talented artists and the ecosystem that supports them. As an art-sensitive magazine, we felt the need to recognize this realm of creative expression,” said Ms. Avarna Jain, Chairperson Editorial Board, HELLO! India.

The jury panel for the awards consisted of esteemed members of the art community, including Bengaluru-based Art Collector Abhishek Poddar, Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, a renowned art historian and Director of the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai, Lekha Poddar, art collector and founder of the Devi Art Foundation and Art expert Rahaab Allana, a curator, and publisher at the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, New Delhi.

HELLO! India Art Awards also sought the advice of experts like Shefali Somani and Anahita Taneja of Shrine Empire Gallery who acted as consultants to the awards. Committed to spotlighting emerging artistic voices from South Asia, their Gallery partnered with HELLO! to usher in an era of new and exciting art opportunities in the country.

The ceremony began with a panel discussion featuring jury member Tasneem Mehta, India Art Fair director Jaya Asokan, and curator Kishore Singh. The discussion on ‘Moving Beyond The Modernists’ was moderated by noted art collector Nitin Bhayana.

The rest of the evening flowed with heartfelt speeches, legends of the community coming together to pay respects to each other on stage, and an overall feeling of optimism about the future of the Indian art scene.
