While many might argue that there’s no right or wrong way to eat chocolate, when an expert tells you that there are a few key steps to follow before indulging in the sweet goodness, you better take notes!

Recently, World Chocolate Master Elias Läderach was in Delhi to launch Läderach’s debut store in India in collaboration with Dharampal Satyapal Group, one of India’s leading FMCG groups. The Swiss chocolate brand opened it’s doors in DLF Emporio, giving sweet-toothed Indians access to the best chocolates, straight from Switzerland.

“(Indians) really appreciate good food and that is, for me, the perfect reason why Läderach is a very good fit here,” said Elias Läderach when we managed to catch up with him at the launch. He further added that good chocolate is always a great gift too and that’s could come in handy during the upcoming festive season.

But what makes a chocolate ‘good’?

“I think the freshness of chocolate is key for success,” said Läderach. “Usually, people link freshness with vegetables or fruits. But, it’s a secret that a chocolate that is fresh tastes different and so much better than a chocolate that is already a few months or even over a year old.”

How to eat chocolate correctly?

To truly enjoy this aforementioned good Swiss chocolate, you’ll need to engage multiple senses, according to the expert.

“I always say, ‘please eat the chocolate with all your senses to really enjoy it’. Good chocolate is not just to fill your stomach because you’re hungry but to really indulge in, very consciously. So, I say use your five senses, look at the chocolate, smell it—very important before you eat it. Touch its edges, run your finger over the embossing. When you break it, listen to how it sounds because it is indicative about the quality. And then, finally, eat it. So I think it’s really a multi-sensorial experience to eat chocolate.”
