To put it nicely, Timothée Chalamet’s latest film, Bones and All was quite grotesque. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the 2022 film starring Chalamet and the Escape Room star, Taylor Russell, follows the life of Maren Yearly, who after getting abandoned by her father due to her cannibalistic behaviour, goes out to find her mother. On this adventure, she meets and falls in love with Lee, who, like her, is also a cannibal. While they go on a journey to discover themselves, their love is put to test because of their terrifying past.

While the director does insist that Bones and All is a romantic film, we do get to see some graphic scenes of the characters consuming human flesh in the most cannibalistic way possible. During an interview, Russell recently spoke about what they ate to replicate the look of flesh. “It was a combination of those maraschino cherries and dark chocolate sauce, and things like that,” she shared. Russell then went on to add, “They were very kind about us having, I guess, some tastier sweet treats.” Looks like this will be on next year’s Halloween food list!

The film premiered during the Venice Film Festival 2022 which took place in September, where Taylor Russell also won the Marcello Mastroianni Award, which gives recognition to emerging talent.

Are you ever going to be able to look at cherries the same way again?
