Black And White Saris Come Celebrity-Approved This Diwali

Black and white saris are clearly having a moment currently. With Diwali fast approaching, a lot of us are on the lookout for inspiration to strike, when it comes to our ensembles for the festive season. And if you’re in the same boat, fret not, because we’re here to help you make note of what’s trending in the world of traditional wear, based on what your favourite celebrities have been wearing.

Black and white saris appeal to the sartorial sensibilities of many, but due to the cultural and religious connotations that are attached the two shades, it can be daunting to invest in garments of the same colour. However, if you allow your wardrobe to not adhere to the rules, a black and white sari is the chicest thing you can wrap yourself in. Especially, when it comes to dressing up for a night of Diwali-themed parties and social gatherings.

Don’t take our word for it—here’s how some of the most fashion-forward celebrities have been wearing the black and white sari. We gaurantee you will be convinced to add one to your wardrobe by the time you reach the end.

From Karisma Kapoor to Sharvari, Here’s How Celebrities Have Been Owning The Black And White Sari:

1. Karisma Kapoor

This ’90s icon is known to regularly serve one stunning look after the other. Recently at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Karisma wore a binary-themed black and white sari by Abraham and Thakore from their latest collection, ‘Body Language’. The white sari was overlaid with black rectangular and circular sequins, as well as clear holographic round sequins on the border. The matching, printed blouse featured full-sleeves that added to the sophistication of her look. Karisma added finishing touches by opting for a sleek bun, a bronze make-up look and minimal earrings that are contrasted by maximalist rings. The veteran actor was at the festival to support her sister, Kareena Kapoor at the screening of The Buckingham Murders.

2. Priyanka Chopra Jonas

PeeCee made it back to the ’Bay just in time for the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, which was held in Nita Mukesh Ambani Culture Centre (NMACC) this year. While she wore a white Tony Ward bodycon floor-length tulle gown for the opening night, she pipped herself in a black and white sari by Sabyasachi for her second appearance. The ivory-white drape featured black floral motifs along with black and golden borders, and it came with a matching, plunging V-neck blouse. The ‘desi girl’ accessorised the ensemble with a bold red lip, high glam make-up and Bulgari jewellery.

3. Sharvari Wagh

Manish Malhotra’s recent Diwali bash was something of a runway, featuring his best designs worn by the who’s who of Bollywood. The Forgotten Army actor posed for the platoon of paparazzos posted outside the venue, and left every body watching (IRL and virtually) at a loss for words. Sharvari stunned in a shimmering, chequered sari with a black bikini blouse by the ace designer. She let the drape do the talking by opting to pull her hair into a bun and keeping the accessories to a minimal, only wearing green, square emeralds earrings and a singular ring. However, when it came to the make-up, Sharvari sported a high glam, bronze look with smokey eyes and lots of highlighter.

So, are you convinced to go the monochrome way this Diwali?
