7 Celebrities Who Are Champions Of Ocean Conservation

It’s not unusual to wake up everyday to an alarming statistic about the environment that can outdo the one you read the day before. For instance, did you know 90% of the big fish population in our oceans have been depleted? Or that 50% of coral reefs around the world have been destroyed because of human intervention?
Oceans cover 70% of the Earth’s surface and are essential for our survival, along with every other organism on the planet. It’s becoming increasingly clear that awareness about our role in conserving the resource is the need of the hour.

While this might seem bleak, there’s a ray of hope. Along with activists, indigenous leaders, and organisations like The United Nations, many celebrities have also put their might behind promoting awareness for the cause.
On the occasion of World Oceans Day, we decided to take a look at some of the celebrities who moonlight as ocean warriors…

Sonakshi Sinha

The Dahaad actress is someone who is always ready to back a worthy cause. Sinha, who is a certified scuba diver, is very passionate about working towards saving the oceans. Aside from being a part of several beach clean-up drives, she also uses her social media platforms to talk about ocean conservation. “It is very important for our environment to have a healthy ocean because if there’s no blue, there’s no green! Our underwater plants and corals are getting bleached out because of the adverse effects of global heating. People leave beaches dirty and there’s so much plastic underwater. It is very important that you pick up the garbage and keep the beach clean. Single use plastic should definitely be banned and there should be a lot more awareness about it,” she said.
