HELLO!: In your over 30 years in the industry, what are the biggest changes you’ve seen?

Kajol: “One of the biggest changes I’ve seen is probably the vanity vans! I time and again thank whoever made it happen… It changed so many aspects of filmmaking for women in the industry. It made working in random locations so much more convenient. And, of course, the fact that this is an era for fame but also for talent to shine and work without having to be a ‘regular’ in size, colour or age — or even beauty, for that matter!”

H!: You’ve given us so many memorable movies and characters. Which one remains your favourite?

KD: “My forever favourite will probably be the ‘jhalli’ (tomboyish) Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”

H!: What would be your one piece of advice to actors starting out today?

KD: “My only advice to all actors would be to find what is unique about them and stick to that. That’s what will make you stand out. Not your perfect body or the straightest nose.”

H!: How does it feel to be recognised for your decades of hard work?

KD: “Not everyone works for recognition, but for us actors, it’s almost a necessity. Recognition is an acknowledgment of the fact that the work you’re doing is being seen by others, and that’s always heartening.”

H!: Your fans love your on-screen jodi with SRK. Who’s your favourite couple?

KD: “My favourite jodi would be Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.”
