The phenomenon is based on the universally agreed-upon theory that airports are another world on their own. According to creators on TikTok, and the many who left comments in agreement, ‘Airport Crush’ is when you find someone close to your age at the airport and find them attractive or ‘Airport Hot’. Usually, this person wouldn’t be someone you would be attracted to but because you’re both in the same location, the uncanny valley-esque place that is an airport, you develop a crush on them.
The term has sparked hundreds and thousands of videos on social media, with women getting into natural, no-make-up makeup looks to look effortlessly beautiful before heading to the airport on the off-chance they stumble upon their airport crush.
One of the reasons why the phenomenon is so popular is because airports are teeming with romantic meet-cute possibilities. While many airport crushes fizzle out once your flight lands at your destination, there’s always a possibility that you might end up finding The One, as some of the accounts on TikTok have.
