Alia Bhatt has had her hands full with her newborn baby girl, but that’s still not stopping her from taking over the world. Her biggest hit, Gangubai Kathiawadi is now officially launching a campaign in all categories for next year’s BAFTA Film Awards which will take place in February.

With more and more non-English films making their way into International Awards, film industries around the globe are pushing to win big on a global scale, and the same holds true for the Indian film industry. Another Alia Bhatt-starrer, RRR is also making its way to the Oscars 2023, since they’ve submitted the film in 14 categories.

Starring Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi tells the story of a young woman named Gangu, who, after being cheated by her lover, is sold to a brothel in Mumbai’s renowned red light district, Kamathipura. She then takes control and lets go of her past to become the most powerful person in the area. Gangubai then works towards uplifting sex workers and giving them and their children the opportunities and respect that they truly deserve.

The 2022 film has been submitted for Best Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, and many more categories. In fact, this isn’t director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first nomination; his blockbuster film, Devdas was nominated in the Non-English category at the 56th BAFTA Awards.
