The release of Samantha Prabhu’s highly-awaited sci-fi thrillerYashoda, which was initially scheduled to take over the big screens on 12 August to coincide with Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan, was postponed for various reasons. The makers have now announced a newly-locked in release date for the film—11 November 2022.

The film’s theme, first-look video and the teaser, all have been shrouded in mystery and progressively building suspense among the viewers. When it came to revealing its release date, the movie makers hadn’t alluded to much initially. With the aim to announce the release date uniquely, the team developed an interesting pixel puzzle campaign on the movie’s website and urged fans to participate by solving it and revealing the poster and release date in parts like a puzzle, one pixel at a time. Thousands of fans participated in this fun activity and uncovered the poster within 30 minutes.

The pan-India movie is going to be available for consumption in five regional languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Apart from Samantha, the cast of Yashoda includes Unni Mukundan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Shatru, Madhurima, Kalpika Ganesh, Divya Sripada and Priyanka Sharma, among others.

Directed by Hareesh Narayan and Hari Shankar and produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad of Sridevi movies, team Yashoda unveiled a bone-chilling teaser video on 8 September. The clip followed a pregnant Samantha who is forced to deftly escape and survive a series of life-threatening situations in a sinister-looking facility and a forest. The teaser also shows the south superstar performing action sequences in the titular role, which are choreographed by Venkat.

Producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad was singing Prabhu’s praises while announcing the release of the film back in April. He said, “Samantha has given a phenomenal performance not just in acting but also in fight sequences of Yashoda. We’re simultaneously releasing the movie in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Shoot will be wrapped up by May end. This action thriller has a plot that can pull national level audiences to theatres.”

While describing the premise of his movie Prasad continued, “Yashoda is a new-age action thriller. Our movie has a balanced quotient of mystery and emotions with gripping elements for audiences. On the whole, it’s an edge-of-the-seat thriller. You will witness an entirely new dimension of Manisharma’s background music.”

After announcing the new release date, he said, “We haven’t compromised on the technical and production values of the film. With a lavish budget, we wrapped the shoot in 100 days. Audiences who love new-age cinema will definitely be thrilled to watch Yashoda. Watch it in theatres Worldwide on 11 November, 2022.”

The actress has a few more exciting projects lined up, including the Gunasekhar directorial period drama Shakuntalam. Prabhu will also star in an upcoming romantic drama Kushi, co-starring Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role. Adding another feather to her cap and our country on the global map, the actress is also set to make her Hollywood debut with Arrangements of Love.

Helmed by producer-director Vignesh Shivan, Samantha was last seen in the Tamil movie, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, with Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles. She was also lauded for her sensual and apparently patriarchy-ending dance moves in the smash hit song-and-dance number ‘Oo Antava’ from 2021’s Pushpa: The Rise, alongside Allu Arjun.
