After her critically-acclaimed film Raazi, Meghna Gulzar is back with a biopic, Sam Bahadur, which is based on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw’s life. Vicky Kaushal, who has previously worked with Gulzar on Raazi alongside Alia Bhatt will be playing the role of the former Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. And recently, the makers also announced that Dangal star, Fatima Sana Shaikh has joined the cast and will be portraying the role of the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.

Shaikh, who stole our hearts in Amazon Prime Video’s show, Modern Love Mumbai, as the free-spirited Laali, revealed the reason why she agreed to do this film. During an interview, the actor said that she only took the role of the Indian politician because of Meghana Gulzar. The actor shared that she is a huge fan of the director and is excited to work with her co-star, Vicky Kaushal, who she thinks is a “sweetheart”. Shaikh’s Dangal co-star and close friend, Sanya Malhotra will also be a part of Sam Bahadur and will be portraying the role of the Field Marshal’s wife, Silloo Manekshaw.

While they won’t be seen together in a scene, Shaikh said, “Just the fact that we will be together in the same film is very special.” Sam Bahadur is rumoured to hit floors later this year.
