The much-anticipated trailer for Ranveer Singh’s upcoming movie Jayeshbhai Jordaar was finally released yesterday to widely positive feedback. The story follows the titular Jayeshbhai as he tries to fight his family and community’s regressive ideas about a girl child and general gender discrimination around his village.

The trailer promises a powerful story with equally charged performances. Here are five reasons why we’re excited to watch the Ranveer Singh-starrer this May…

Because it talks about gender discrimination

There’s no dearth of movies being made on social issues in Bollywood. Over the years, social messaging has become a thriving genre of its own. So Jayeshbhai Jordaar being about gender discrimination faced by women at every stage of their lives is not a new concept but it’s still alarmingly relevant and needed.

Because it seems like the perfect watch for the Summer

While Summer blockbusters usually mean big spectacles, mostly involving a superhero or two, this movie seems like the perfect choice for a movie night out with your family. Despite talking about heavy themes, the movie promises a light-hearted approach to these intense subjects that could make for an enjoyable and meaningful watch.

Because it brings talented performers together on-screen

Aside from Ranveer Singh, the movie also has the incredible Ratna Pathak Shah and Boman Irani in integral roles. Arjun Reddyactress Shalini Pandey is also making her Hindi-language film debut with this one.

Because it is giving us a hero we can root for

There is no boring machismo about Singh’s character, the titular Jayeshbhai, in the movie. He recognizes the discrimination between the two genders in his community and, while he feels like he can’t stand up to his father and the patriarchal values dictating the behaviour of the people around him, he ultimately manages to save his wife, daughter, and his future child.

Because it has Ranveer Singh like we’ve never seen him before

The actor has been known to play larger-than-life characters on-screen, including legendary cricketers and emperors. But this time, Singh brings his might behind a simpler character who might not have a ripped, six-pack adorned body or superbly-choreographed action sequences to boast about, but is all heart. This is Ranveer Singh like we’ve never seen before and we can’t wait to see the movie soon.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar is slated to release in theaters on May 13, 2022.
