Indian food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world with dishes and brews regularly making their way to the top spots of rankings from around the world. The latest list, put together by Taste Atlas, collects the rankings of the best lamb dishes worldwide and two Indian delicacies made it to the top 30.

According to Taste Atlas’ ‘Top 50 Best Lamb Dishes In The World’, Rogan Josh and Galouti kebab are amongst some of the most beloved lamb dishes, not only in India but, in the world.

Rogan Josh, a traditional lamb curry hailing from Kashmir, was placed at the 26th spot and the melt-in-your-mouth Galouti kebabs were placed at the 27th position.

The food and travel guide describes Rogan Josh as a dish featuring “tender meat and a thick, fiery red sauce coming from deseeded Kashmiri chillies”, and gives an interesting insight into the origin of Galouti kebabs.

“The name galouti means soft, referring to a belief that Haji Mohammad Fakr-e-Alam Saheb, who first made the dish, gave it to Nawab Asad-ud-Daula, who was toothless and needed a kebab variety which required no chewing,” reads the description on the official website.

The top spot was claimed by Greece’s Paidakia which are grilled lamb chops marinated in a combination of olive oil, lemon juice, and a variety of fresh herbs, followed by Turkey’s Cag kebabi and Doner kebab.
