Bibhu Mohapatra’s LFW Collection Is A Celebration Of Women

Designer Bibhu Mohapatra is returning to India after nearly a decade to present his collection, aptly titled ‘Come Home’, at the grand finale at Lakmé Fashion Week 2023.

The designer is collaborating with Lakmé to present a collection that would feature some new pieces from his label and some iconic ones that represent important milestones in his journey.

Born in Orissa, India, Bibhu Mohapatra moved to New York to pursue his dreams of becoming a designer. Over the years, the designer has established his eponymous label that is loved by celebrities around the world, from Priyanka Chopra to Michelle Obama, and made a name for himself as a costume designer for prestigious stages like Glimmerglass Opera’s Aida.

The designer will showcase 75 looks at LFW’s grand finale, unveiling some of his latest designs along with some of his signature pieces.

“India holds a very special place in my heart, and I am delighted to return to my homeland and bring to the Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI runway a collection that champions the prowess of the modern Indian woman. I look forward to presenting my ‘Come Home’ collection drawing inspiration from the House of Lakmé and its effortless amalgamation of Beauty x Fashion. It is an honour to be the House of Lakmé Grand Finale designer this season,” said the designer on the iconic collaboration.

The collection, according to the designer, is a tribute to the women who shaped him and celebrates their individuality. “I believe that Lakmé and I, both share a common goal of championing women and celebrating their elegance, strength and confidence and empowering them to express their unique identities and talents.”
