Designer Pallavi Mohan’s label Not So Serious has always experimented with new-age techniques and textures, resulting collections that push the envelope for the last 15 years. “I’ve always been drawn to textures, surface embellishments and statement accents for the richness they add to each ensemble. Experimenting with these techniques allows me to create a distinctive aesthetic that merges elegance with playfulness,” says the designer, as we catch her amidst the chaos and rush just a day ahead of her showcase at Lakmé Fashion Week.
Mohan, who is completing 15 years in the industry this year, has dedicated her upcoming showcase to her journey. The collection, titled ‘My Journey... Just The Beginning’, is a celebration of self-expression and resilience, says the designer. “You can expect a visual feast with a harmonious blend of traditional techniques and cutting-edge design, featuring intricate 3D embellishments and delicately crafted laser-cut flowers.”
The collection, in true Pallavi Mohan fashion, is an exploration of colours, textures, and surface embellishments. “The process behind this collection involved meticulous craftsmanship, showcasing a visual symphony of textures and forms. The vibrant palette, including pastels and bold hues, serves as a canvas for pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion and celebrating individuality.”
The designer’s one style advice for this upcoming festive and wedding season is to not be afraid of experimenting. “Mix and match textures fearlessly, and don’t be afraid to play with bold colours. It’s about expressing your unique style and celebrating creativity,” she says, adding that the Indian fashion scene is embracing diversity and innovation and that makes this an exciting time to be a style enthusiast in the country. “There’s a dynamic energy that pushes boundaries and celebrates the richness of our cultural heritage in new and exciting ways.”
Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan will be showcasing on Day 3 (October 13) of the ongoing Lakmé Fashion Week 2023 in Delhi.
