It’s September and, as any style enthusiast worth their salt would tell you, it’s the most exciting time for fashion globally. The fashion week circuit is kicking off soon and will have designers and labels showcasing what’s coming next spring.
New York Fashion Week marks the first of many fashion showcases around the world, with names like Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors and Proenza Schouler presenting their collections. Ralph Lauren is making a comeback to the runway at NYFW this year and is supposed to be one of the biggest highlights this time around.
Over the past few years, many Indian designers have also made a niche for themselves at the prestigious fashion event, like Bibhu Mohapatra and Vaishali S. And this time around, homegrown brand Anaar is etching history by becoming the first Indian footwear brand to showcase its collection at the NYFW runway.
“We are absolutely thrilled about Anaar’s participation in New York Fashion Week!” says founder Tanushri Biyani, “It’s a momentous occasion for us, and we see it as a fantastic opportunity to introduce our unique blend of Indian luxury handcrafted sneakers to a global audience.”
Anaar is particularly known for its handcrafted sneakers that combine comfort with contemporary Indian tweaks that make them perfectly unique and fashion-forward. The brand is collaborating with designer labels like Kayzie Couture, Kish Jeane and Stuti Weaves to present a collection of classic and wedge sneakers.
“Our collection for NYFW promises to be a harmonious fusion of traditional Indian craftsmanship and modern aesthetics,” says Biyani, adding, “You can expect to see intricate detailing, vibrant colours and materials of the highest quality. Our sneakers are designed to be shapeshifters, perfect for dressing up for any occasion. They peek from under maximalist festive ensembles and offer just the right amount of sparkle.”
Biyani claims that Anaar’s presence on the global stage will allow more people to become aware of India’s fine craftsmanship that can be married seamlessly to modern design sensibilities. “Participating in NYFW is significant for us because it allows us to showcase our brand’s commitment to luxury, quality and the infusion of Indian culture on one of the world’s most prestigious fashion stages.
