We Owe These Iconic Style Trends To You, Salman Khan

The Dabangg star Salman Khan, turns 57 today! Over the years we have seen the actor grow from a devil-may-care youngin to a mature and humble Bollywood star and social worker. So, on the occasion of his birthday, we’re taking a look at some of his most iconic styles that we have to thank him for bringing in vogue all these years.

Although Khan isn’t someone who likes to constantly experiment with his fashion, the actor exudes a classic style quotient that has transcended time and fashion faux pas. His style is mostly minimal, featuring some classic go-tos, and of course, his signature turquoise bracelet.

From making vests mainstream to introducing hoop earrings and bracelets in men’s fashion, the megastar has inspired countless style and grooming trends in his film career of nearly four decades.

Case in point, Khan showed up at his birthday party last night hosted by his family at sister Arpita Khan and husband Aayush Sharma’s residence in an all-black look. Keeping it rugged-classic, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor sported a crew-neck full sleeved black T-shirt and paired it with leather pants that featured his signature zip detailing at the hem.

For shoes, he went for a pair of chunky heeled black boots that were flanked with some silver studs. His signature bracelet, hoop earrings and a watch rounded off his very basic but timeless birthday look. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was also in attendance at the glitzy do and arrived in an all-black T-shirt and cargo pants. And as cherry on top of the cake, the snippet of the two stars and former ‘foes’ embracing each other like old friends went instantly viral on the internet. Talk about a Christmas miracle, am I right?

Take a look at ‘Bhaijaan’s’ stylish accessories and ‘fits that have influenced men’s fashion trends over the years.

The Turquoise Chain Bracelet

There’s not one Salman Khan fan in the world who doesn’t know about the infamous silver and turquoise bracelet that he doesn’t go anywhere without. The silver chain bracelet, which is adorned with an enormous turquoise stone in the middle, was first spotted on the star’s wrist in the film Jai Ho. Khan claims to have received the bracelet from his father Salim Khan as a present.

Black Leather Jacket

Some would say that SRK is the eternal black leather jacket icon, but we believe the Tiger Zinda Hai actor is no less of a contributor to this timeless fashion trend. Khan was first spotted wearing the leather jacket in the song ‘Dil Deewana’ from the cult-classic movie Maine Pyar Kiya. The superstar is often seen keeping it casual with his outfits, but when it comes to layering up, our very own Chulbul Pandey always reaches for a black leather jacket. It’s no surprise that the black leather ensemble continues to be a winter essential for all of us.

Ripped Jeans

Fashion lovers would agree that ripped jeans are the ultimate street-style fashion choice on days when you want to keep it low-key yet cool and sexy. The ripped jeans were always looked down upon in India until Khan donned tattered jeans in the iconic ‘O O Jaane Jana’ song. The Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya actor rocked the shirtless look with ripped jeans which continues to steal hearts even today.

Dabangg Sunglasses

The Ray-Ban aviator trend picked up rapidly when the Tiger Zinda Hai star first sported them in 2010 for his role of Chulbul Pandey in the blockbuster movie, Dabangg. Khan made the classic aviators all the sexier with his quirky style of hanging the glasses on his collar behind his neck. The actor looked suave in a policeman avatar, fighting goons while still flashing that million-dollar smile. Tiny sunglasses may come and go with the trends, but the classic aviators still have so many of us on a chokehold to this day.

Avant Garde Suits

Khan is known to stick to his fuss-free personal style but when it comes to suiting up, the star likes to dip his toes in riskier waters of fashion. The actor has donned the most whimsical suit colours including yellow, pink, red, and all shades of blue on many occasions. Khan’s Bigg Boss style is also a testament to how he incorporates a bit of quirky glam in his ‘formal style’. Sallu Bhai is often spotted wearing sequins, patchwork, and embroidered suits at his famous ‘Weekend Ka Vaar’ episodes.

Six-Pack Abs

Even though this isn’t exactly a style trend, there’s no denying that Khan perpetuated the ‘glistening, hairless, tanned and muscular male body with six-pack abs’ look through his movies. Having abs became a raging trend after Khan took off his shirt for ‘O O Jaane Jana’ and gave men all over India some serious fitness inspiration. Khan can be credited with bringing the fitness obsession in India with his chiselled frame and muscular structure. Even today, at the age of 57, the Baghban star can give many of the younger actors a run for their money when it comes to fitness.

The Tere Naam Haircut

When it comes to Salman Khan, you can expect nothing less than a mass following. That’s exactly what happened after the release of his 2003 film Tere Naam. We all cringed when the star sported his pop-culture defining long greasy locks in the movie. But believe it or not, from autowallahs to college youngsters, everybody wanted to ape their favourite superstar by flaunting this hairdo, and, for a while there, it was Salman Khan’s world and we were just living in it.
