7 Movies To Watch If You Loved Rian Johnson’s ‘Glass Onion’

Rian Johnson is back with a sequel to his 2019 hit Knives Out, which is one of the best murder mysteries of recent times. In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, we meet private investigator Benoit Blanc once again as he sets out to investigate a murder on a private island belonging to a tech billionaire.

Just like Knives Out, the second instalment is funny, dark, and packs a twist that will surprise you. The Netflix movie starring Daniel Craig, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monae, and Ed Norton is all anyone can talk about online recently and it’s making us impatient for the third part in the Benoit Blanc mystery series.

Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

This adaptation of the classic Agatha Christie novel has 13 strangers travel onboard the Orient Express through Europe. The glamorous train ride takes a macabre turn when one of the passengers turns up dead. Cue the entry of eccentric detective Hercule Poirot who gets tasked with solving the seemingly unsolvable mystery. Aside from the fact that Benoit Blanc is a spiritual descendant of Poirot, the movie also features a starry ensemble cast. It stars Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley.

Raat Akeli Hai (2020)

One of the best ‘locked-room mysteries’ of recent times was this Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer. In the movie, a small-town cop is called upon to investigate the murder of a newlywed landlord. The prime suspects in the murder include the victim’s family members, making the investigation harder and the mystery juicier.

Sriram Raghavan’s crime thriller Andhadhun is one of the finest movies in Bollywood’s history. The darkly funny premise and the ambiguous ending made sure that it became a cult favourite in the short period since its release. The movie follows Akash (Ayushmann Khurrana), a pianist who is pretending to be visually impaired, as he gets entangled in a complicated murder mystery after witnessing said murder. The movie also starred Radhika Apte and Tabu.

A sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, this Agatha Christie adaptation focuses on a murder onboard a cruise on the Nile, as the name suggests. A newlywed couple invites their wedding guests on a cruise. Everything’s going well until someone is mysteriously shot and now everyone on board is a suspect. Now it’s up to Detective Poirot to solve the mystery. Aside from Branagh returning as Poirot, the movie starred Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Ali Fazal, Annette Bening, Tom Bateman, Letitia Wright, Emma Mackey, Rose Leslie, and Russell Brand.

This 2006 reboot of the popular franchise has Steve Martin star as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. The bumbling, accident-prone detective has to solve the mystery of the murder of a famous football coach and the disappearance of the iconic Pink Panther diamond. The movie stars Jean Reno, Beyoncé, Kevin Kline, and Emily Mortimer.
