As we head into the season of weddings, it might seem like there are ‘happy ever afters’ all around you. One quick scroll down your timeline littered with pre-wedding photo shoot dumps would make you feel every inch of the Single Pringle you are.
This seems like the perfect and the worst time to watch a show about two beautiful people falling in love while wearing beautiful clothes (in a beautiful palace, of course).
We’re talking about the first look of the Bridgerton spin-off that the world has been waiting for.
Back in May 2021, Netflix and creator Shonda Rhimes had revealed that we’ll be getting a prequel series based on Queen Charlotte’s life. At the recently held event, Tudum, where the streaming platform announced the upcoming titles to look forward to, the first look of the show was released.
Titled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the show veers away from the source material by Julia Quinn as the character of the eccentric monarch was created only for the show.
The official synopsis reveals that the show is “centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”
While Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte in the original Bridgerton series, is slated to make an appearance in the spin-off, Sex Education’s India Amarteifio is going to play the role of the young Queen in the show.
Sharing a photo of the actress as Queen Charlotte on Instagram, the official Bridgerton account wrote, “Dearest readers, rejoice in a formal introduction to royalty herself, India Amarteifio, who along with the incomparable duo of Golda Rosheuvel and Adjoa Andoh will reveal the origins of Your Majesty. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is on the way, indeed.”
The short clip, shared along with the announcement, shows Queen Charlotte’s first meeting with King George (The Sandman’s Corey Mylchreest) and it’s evident that their chemistry is going to be off the charts, hence the aforementioned bemoaning over it feeling like a direct attack on our lack of romantic prospects.
Aside from Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh (who plays Lady Danbury) will also be a part of the show. New additions to the Bridgerton-verse include Sam Clemmett, Richard Cunningham, Freddie Dennis, Michelle Fairley, and Cyril Nri.
The release date for Queen Charlotte: A Birdgerton Story hasn’t been revealed yet, but keep checking this space for more updates!
