There are few things that can rival the anticipation of a real-life celebrity wedding in Bollywood. Usually preceded by months of will-they-won’t-they speculation, the eve of the wedding is eclipsed by the palpable excitement of what the blushing bride will wear. While most celebrity brides prefer going the all-Sabyasachi route, it is interesting to see the many unique ways in which they bring their own touch to their looks, often shattering age-old conventions along the way:

Alia Bhatt

The mom-to-be’s surprise nuptials in April had her opting for a summery colour palette: ivory and gold. The star ditched the ceremonial reds in favour of a timeless ivory sari and a pared-back approach to hair and make-up that inspired brides everywhere to embrace minimalism.

Sonam Kapoor

The new mum’s sartorial history is littered with standout moments, and her reception was no different. Defying convention that brides shouldn’t wear black to their wedding, she opted for a noir lehenga from close friend Anamika Khanna and pin-straight tresses to round out the look.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

It wouldn’t be Chopra’s wedding without fanfare and, on that end, the Quantico star delivered. For her dreamy nuptials in Udaipur, she stepped out in a 75-foot-long veil that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a fairytale.

Shibani Dandekar

Just as style-watchers started feeling the ennui with showstopper lehengas from a routine set of couturiers, Dandekar’s nuptials breezed in like a breath of fresh air. Eschewing the conventional whites, the star opted for a floral red ensemble from JADE by Monica & Karishma with intricate lace detailing.

Katrina Kaif

While many expected Kaif to don a conventional white gown for her nuptials, the Kay Beauty entrepreneur pulled out a surprise by opting for a floral sari instead from her go-to couturier with vintage-inflected florals and a coordinated veil.
