Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday have unveiled the teaser of their upcoming film, Dream Girl 2. Released on the eve of Valentine’s Day, it teases the new Dream Girl without revealing her face, but it’s evident that Khurrana is not just impersonating a woman’s voice, but is also dressed up as one this time around. The film will be released in theatres on July 7 this year.
Sharing the teaser Panday wrote on Instagram, “I thought sign karne par film mein ek heroine thi, yeh @pooja___dreamGirl ko sab kyun call kar rahe hain guys (I thought there was only one heroine in the film while signing the project, why is everyone calling this Pooja now)? #7KoSaathMein #DreamGirl2 releasing in cinemas on 7th July, 2023 (sic).”
The teaser opens with a woman decked up in a shimmery backless blouse and lehenga, sitting on the bed with her back to the camera. In a clever move to promote not one but three movies in one go, Khurrana is seen back in his Pooja avatar as he flirts with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan on the call. Khan’s seductive voice says, ‘meri Jawan aa aa rahi hai (my Jawan is releasing)’ and asks her about her (i.e the movie’s) arrival. The woman then reveals that Dream Girl 2 is set to arrive in cinema halls in July this year.
The upcoming film is the follow-up to the 2019 comedy-drama also starring Khurrana, who played a man whose female voice impersonation as Pooja begets the attention of others. When he gets a job at a call centre due to his ability to talk in a woman’s voice, he garners a big fan following but soon gets in trouble with his overzealous clients.
Backed by Ektaa R. Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, the sequel’s cast also includes Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Manoj Joshi, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and Rajpal Yadav.
Talking about the second instalment of the Dream Girl franchise, the Badhaai Do actor said, “I am super stoked about Dream Girl 2! This is my second outing with Balaji Motion Pictures and I am thankful to Ektaa that she has carried this franchise forward and made it bigger. I have found a friend in Raaj and it’s exciting to team up with him again. Ananya Panday has been paired with me and I am looking forward to seeing the audience’s reaction to our chemistry.”
