5 Times South Star Prabhas Delivered Memorable Performances

Prabhas, the south actor who is synonymous with gigantic biceps, a ‘chocolate-boy’ smile and an impressive filmography, is no longer just a Telugu superstar - his stardom and fan following spreads across the length and breadth of India, and even across the world. You may say that Baahubali’s massive success may have a lot to do with it. True, the film did cast a spell on the audiences.

But to solely credit Prabhas‘ popularity to just this one film won’t be fair - the star has done enough to showcase both his range as a performer, as well as his knack for choosing interesting scripts over the span of his two-decade-long film career.

Here are five of Prabhas’ best films till date.

Baahubali 1- The Beginning (2015)

With Baahubali- The Beginning, the man of the hour and director S. S. Rajamouli expanded the horizon of film making in India. Its action sequences, visual effects, cinematography and the sheer grandeur was a feat that other films have yet to emulate. Set in the kingdom of Mahishmati, the story revolves around Shivudu, who, while pursuing his love, learns about the conflict ridden past of his family and his legacy. He must now prepare himself to face his newfound arch-enemy. Released in 2015, the first of the two Baahubali films went on to break many records and became one of the highest grossing Indian films ever. The film’s popularity crossed national boundaries with Prabhas and Rana Daggubati emerging as mega stars.

Bahubali 2- The Conclusion (2017)

What followed the first Baahubali film was the nation’s most popular unsolved mystery - “Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?” It kept the audiences on their toes until the release of its sequel in 2017 titled Baahubali: The Conclusion. The film earned a record-breaking Rs 1,800 at the box office and also became second highest grossing film in India, further cementing Prabhas‘ nationwide stardom.

Chatrapathi (2005)

Sivaji, a refugee who migrated to Andhra Pradesh from Sri Lanka due to riots, fights to protect the rights of bonded labourers who are exploited by a mafia, earning the title of Chhatrapati. The film was released in 2005 and is rife with all the elements of a classic Telugu action film balanced with romance and the protagonist’s emotions for his mother.

Mirchi (2013)

Famous story and dialogue writer Koratala Siva made his directorial debut with this movie. Prabas starred alongside Anushka Shetty, and also won a Nandi Award for his romantic role. This movie is a full package with romance, ultimate action scenes and a great plot twist, making it a great entertainer.

Saaho (2019)

This multi-language film, which had a whopping budget of ₹300 crore, marked Prabhas’ official Hindi debut, alongside Shraddha Kapoor. Set in a futuristic city called ‘Wazi,’ which was built from scratch for the movie, this action entertainer follows the story of an undercover agent and his partner. When the duo goes after a thief who has stolen 2,000 crore rupees, they soon realise that the case is connected to the death of a crime lord and an emerging gang war. With the city under fire and people’s lives at risk, the protagonist has to give everything he has got to reclaim his city.

Saaho perfectly portrays a power battle within the higher echelons of power, while seemingly unrelated and unconnected episodes occur in different parts of the globe and intertwine in an unforeseen manner to a revelation of mind games.
