Sunny Deol And Rajkumar Santoshi To Reunite After 27 Years

Rajkumar Santoshi is donning the director’s hat after nine years for his upcoming period drama Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh. The filmmaker officially launched the film’s trailer on January 11 and spoke at length about the concept of the movie during the launch event. Attendees were in for another treat as he confirmed a reunion that everyone had been waiting for, with Sunny Deol after 27 long years.

In the early ’90s, the actor-director duo of Deol and Santoshi seemed to have cracked the box office code by delivering three mega blockbusters together, namely, Damini (of ‘dhai kilo ka haath’ fame), Ghayal and Ghatak. Deol and Santoshi parted ways after a reported bitter fallout after their third movie in 1996. While the reason behind it has been speculated many times, it was never confirmed by either of the parties. But at the trailer launch of Gandhi Godse, Santoshi confirmed that he and the Gadar actor are indeed coming back together.

While talking about his co-writer Asghar Wajahat, the filmmaker revealed, “Asghar and I became friends through his famous play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai. We were working on it and we are also planning that film. We are starting the film in March. I am making it with Sunny Deol, we are working together after 24-25 years.”

Santoshi unveiled the trailer of his directorial comeback Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh, which has been receiving positive feedback from his audience. Starring Deepak Antani as Gandhi and Chinmay Mandlekar as Godse, the film is a retelling of the story of Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse, and puts forward both of their point of views.

The project also marks the acting debut of Santoshi’s daughter Tanisha Santoshi alongside Anuj Saini, and it releases on January 26, 2023. Talking about the film, Santoshi promised the audience that they will walk out “knowing a little more about Gandhi and Godse both” after watching the movie.

On the other hand, Sunny Deol is returning to the silver screen with the sequel to his 2001 blockbuster Gadar this year. Gadar 2 will feature the return of both Deol and Ameesha Patel, along with Utkarsh Sharma, who played their son in the first part. Sharma has been entrusted with the lead role in this much-awaited sequel.

Apart from that, Deol also has Baap of All Films with Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff and Apne 2 with father Dharmendra, brother Bobby Deol and son Karan Deol, in his kitty.
