ICYMI, Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur have revealed the first look from their upcoming series The Night Manager. As the name suggests, it’s an official remake of the popular British series of the same name and the two Bollywood actors will be stepping into the shoes of Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston.

The spy thriller’s plot, according to Kapoor, is that the only weapon powerful enough to stop the world’s most dangerous arms dealer is this one hotel’s night manager.

The motion poster shows the two actors walking away from an exploding aeroplane. The first look is already being received positively with fans of the original excited to see how it’s adapted for an Indian audience. The show, which will air on Disney+ Hotstar, also stars Shobhita Dhulipala and Tillotama Shome.

This is not the first time, however, that an international TV show has been remade in India.

From Sushmita Sen’s comeback vehicle Aarya to an audacious Indianised version of The Office, here are some of the Indian web series that have been remade from popular international TV shows.

Aarya

This Sushmita Sen-led show is a remake of Dutch series Penoza. The crime thriller follows the titular Aarya’s descent into a life of crime and deception in order to protect her family and get revenge for the murder of her husband.

The Office

The Indian remake of the American adaptation of the British comedy series The Office turned Dunder-Mifflin into Wilkins Chawla and transported it to Faridabad from Scranton. The show, however, failed to elicit the same response as its American counterpart and was discontinued after two seasons.

Duranga

Korean TV shows and movies have been a big source of inspiration for Indian filmmakers over the years. More recently, K-drama Flower of Evil was adapted into an Indian web series starring Gulshan Devaiah and Drashti Dhami. The show follows a police officer investigating a murder that is an exact copy of a series of 17-year-old murders. Her search leads her to a previously undiscovered accomplice of the original serial killer, his son, who might or might not be her husband of 11 years.

Criminal Justice

The show was a remake of the British series of the same name and followed the story of a cab driver whose life turns upside down after he gets involved in a murder investigation. It starred Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, and Jackie Shroff in leading roles. After the first season, the show was renewed for two more seasons with Tripathi as the lead character.

Hostages

Another Disney+ Hotstar show, this one is a remake of an Israeli series of the same name. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, the show starred Tisca Chopra and Ronit Roy. It followed a doctor whose family gets taken hostage and will only be spared if she kills her patient, a politician.

Your Honor

This remake of the Israeli series Kvodo asks the question: how far would you go to protect your loved ones? In this case, a Judge has to go against his ethics and beliefs to bend the law so he can protect his son after he gets involved in a hit-and-run case.
