Did you know, you could very well be ringing in the new year with a battle-axe-wielding, long-haired Fawad Khan?! The Pakistani actor’s recent superhit is making its way to India, according to reports.

Pakistani movie The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring the Khoobsurat actor and his frequent collaborator Mahira Khan, is making its way across the border to Indian theatres by December 30, 2022. According to news reports, Zee Studios has acquired the distribution rights to the movie and is going to release it in multiplexes across Delhi NCR and Punjab first, before rolling it out across the country.

Many prominent multiplexes across Gurugram and Amritsar have the poster of the movie and its listing displayed on their premises and their ticketing websites already.

Soon after its October release, the movie had become the highest-grossing Pakistani movie ever after grossing nearly $10 million worldwide. The movie is a remake of the 1979 cult Pakistani hit Maula Jatt, in which the titular hero defeats his enemy, the leader of a brutal clan, and avenges his family. The movie also stars Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malik.

While fans of Pakistani dramas, and the actor, have been overjoyed at the news, the possible release of the movie has started causing political unrest too. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Ameya Khopkar tweeted that the party would not let the movie be screened in India.

Pakistani actors were banned from working in India ever since the 2016 Uri attacks, and consequently, no movie or drama from the country has been released in India ever since then.
