Ever since the 2017 announcement of the project, The Legend of Maula Jatt became one of the most highly-anticipated Pakistani movies of recent times, and not just because it features the Khoobsurat actor wielding a battle-axe with a scarred face and messy hair. The film was embroiled in a lengthy legal battle, regarding the source material, till February 2020.

The movie set a new benchmark when it was revealed that it was the most expensive movie ever made in the country and, four weeks after its release, it has become the highest-grossing Pakistani movie ever by earning over PKR 180 crores worldwide.

The Game of Thrones-meets-Gladiator action drama reunites Khan with his Humsafar co-star Mahira Khan, another fan-favourite across the subcontinent, which is another reason for the film’s unprecedented popularity.

The movie is a reboot of a 1979 Pakistani cult classic of the same name. The story follows the titular Maula Jatt as he seeks to avenge the brutal deaths of his family at the hands of the savage and power-hungry Natt clan.

Aside from astounding box-office success, the movie has been received well critically across the board.
