Shark Tank India Is Officially Returning For Season 2

Sony Entertainment Television’s popular reality show Shark Tank India has officially been renewed for season 2 and the promo is out. Despite the initial scepticism about the show’s borrowed format and success, Shark Tank India eventually emerged as a sweeping hit and earned a substantial TRP for Sony TV. With the first season of the entrepreneur-incubating show rising to mainstream fame with a large viewership and acclaim, the second season is set to be an even bigger shindig sans a few of the original sharks.

Most of the original sharks are returning, including Aman Gupta (Co-Founder and CMO of boAt), Namita Thapar (Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals), Anupam Mittal (Founder and CEO of Shaadi.com), Vineeta Singh (Co-Founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics), and Peyush Bansal (Founder & CEO of Lenskart.com)—with the notable exceptions of Ashneer Grover, who had gained a sizable fan following last season, and Ghazal Alagh. A new shark will be joining the tank— Amit Jain (CEO and Co-founder - CarDekho Group, InsuranceDekho.com), who expressed his excitement to be part of the show in a LinkedIn post.

The promo shared by Sony on social media sees a woman purchasing groceries from a cart while she mocks the vegetable seller over the worth of his cart. The seller then quips about the real value of his business being over ₹70 lakh, much to the bemusement of the woman. The promo goes on to say that this change has been brought about by Shark Tank India, which is now returning for season 2.

The Indian version of the global Shark Tank show, which first aired in December last year, allows budding entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges or sharks. The sharks, meanwhile, offer to invest in their companies in exchange for a certain percentage or stake in the company if impressed with the business models and founders.

The date for the premiere of Shark Tank India season 2 has not been announced by the channel so far. It is expected to air some time this year, most likely by late-November or early December.

Another change has been assigned in the hosting duties. Stand-up comedian Rahul Dua is taking over the reins from Rannvijay Singha as the host this season.
