Taylor Swift Makes Billboard History With Her Album, ‘Midnights’

Taylor Swift has made history by becoming the first musician to claim all the Top 10 slots on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the US with songs from her latest album, Midnights. The singer not only dethroned rapper Drake, who had previously held the record with nine of his songs in the top 10 in one single week in September 2021, but also surpassed the iconic Beatles who had taken over the top 5 in 1964.

Led by ‘Anti-Hero’ at the No.1 spot, whose lyrics “It’s me/hi/I’m the problem/It’s me” have taken no time to become a viral TikTok and Instagram Reels trend, Swift’s 13-track album has taken the internet by storm.

The pop star took to social media to express her gratitude and Tweeted,“10 out of 10 of the Hot 100??? On my 10th album??? I AM IN SHAMBLES.”

The new album was released on October 21 with both a 13-track standard release and a deluxe version with seven bonus tracks. It has had one of the most successful album launches in almost seven years. Billboard also reported that Swift now ties with the legendary Emmy, Grammy and Oscar-winning American artist, Barbra Streisand, for the title of female artist with the most No 1 albums.

Apart from ‘Anti-Hero,’ the other Top 10 songs include ‘Lavender Haze,’ ‘Maroon,’ ‘Snow on the Beach,’ ‘Midnight Rain,’ ‘Bejeweled’ and ‘Question … ?’.

Swift has set several new records with Midnights, including having the biggest first week of sales of any album this year, nearly doubling the numbers of the previous record-holder, Harry’s House, the third solo album by Harry Styles. Midnights also saw the highest first-week streams of the year with a whopping 72.5 million streams, once again leaving behind Styles’ figure of 53.9 million.

As the cherry on top of the cake, the Grammy-winning star’s album broke global Spotify records for the most streams of a single album in one day. Swift is also ruling the UK charts and has officially overtaken Madonna to set a new all-time UK chart record for the fastest succession of nine UK No 1 albums of any female artist, although Madonna still holds the record for the most UK No 1 albums of any solo female artist, with 12 overall. Swift now ranks a close second in that list, pushing Kylie Minogue into third place.
