‘The Simpsons’ Spoof ‘Death Note’ In Anime Avatars For Halloween

The Simpsons‘ ‘Treehouse of Horror’ episodes are often never-seen-before iterations of classics that leave a mark in pop culture history. In a crossover segment for Sunday’s ‘Treehouse of Horror XXXIII’ episode, a parody of the Death Note anime will be showcased with key characters in action, just in time for Halloween. The visuals and snippets from this episode have been garnering lots of anticipation and excitement from anime fans. Three segments will be featured in the special parody episode covering popular media including The Badadook, Death Note and Westworld. The episode in question will officially air on October 30, 2022.

For the unversed, Death Note follows the story of a boy named Light, (portrayed by Lisa Simpson in the spoof), who ends up with a supernatural book in his hands, which has the ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages, presuming that the person writing is aware of both the victim’s name and face.

A dark spirit named Ryuk who keeps Light company has also received a Simpsons-style makeover of his own in the annual Halloween special. The show’s anime versions of Homer, Marge and Mr. Burns—among a series of other vibrant Springfield residents—is truly a treat to watch.

In the trailer, Lisa sees a book falling out of the sky called the Death Tome, which is obviously a nod to Death Note. The book’s signature font and colour is easily recognisable to the popular anime’s fans. Lisa then holds up the Death Tome and finds out that anybody whose name is written in the book will face a death sentence. The trailer ends shortly after that moment, leaving the fans hungry for more.

The studio behind this anime-themed episode for The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror special is Korean animation studio DR Movie. The parody episode is written by Ryan Koh.

But don’t just take out word for how awesome this episode is going to be. Watch the trailer below and you’ll realise it yourself. Anyone else excited for Halloween now?
