From finally watching him back on screen after almost four years, while he delivered one of his biggest box-office hits, to marrying the love of his life, Alia Bhatt and getting ready to welcome their first child, 2022 has truly been a fruitful year for the actor. As he turns a year older today, let’s look back at some of his best films that show just how brilliant the young Kapoor is.

Rockstar (2011)

One of Kapoor’s best films, Rockstar was a movie that defined an entire generation. The movie tells the story of a college student, Janardhan and his journey to becoming a talented musician. As life takes him through many hardships and heartbreaks, he finally lands on the stage that he has always dreamt of. But with all the success, he also goes on a path of self-destruction that threatens to take away everything he has ever worked for. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, Rockstar not only has a great storyline but also has some of the best soul-shattering music by A.R. Rahman, which still has a special place in our hearts.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

A movie that made us all dream of a friendship like Avi, Aditi, Naina and Bunny, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is so much more than just a quintessential Bollywood film. The movie revolves around three childhood best friends, Aditi, Avi, and Bunny, who decide to go on a trip to Manali, only to be joined by their school’s shy topper, Naina. The trip ends up changing each one of their lives, which results in the trio drifting apart from each other. Years later, all four of them come together for Aditi’s big fat Indian wedding and find their way back to each other as friends and even lovers. Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin, and Aditya Roy Kapoor, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is the one film that every Bollywood buff needs to watch.

Wake Up Sid (2009)

Ranbir Kapoor’s best friend, Ayan Mukherji’s directorial debut was a refreshing change during a time when films were all about grandeur. Wake Up Sid revolves around a young college student, Siddharth ‘Sid’ Mehra, who has been enjoying a luxurious somewhat ‘spolit’ life thanks to his father. But when his perfect life crumbles, he needs to learn the importance of life and responsibility. This journey soon leads him to unlock his true potential and recognise his passion. Starring alongside, Konkana Sen Sharma, Kapoor’s portrayal of Sid and his unique chemistry with Sen Sharma is truly refreshing, making it perfect to watch when you are craving a feel-good film.

Sanju (2018)

Ranbir Kapoor Sanjay Dutt in his biopic was definitely one of the most talked about castings of all time. But as a true perfectionist, Kapoor fit the role like a glove, especially when it came to the visual side of the character. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film takes us through the journey of the ups and downs of the Dutt’s life. Specifically touching upon the legacy of his father and the controversial 1993 Bombay attacks, Kapoor’s portrayal of Dutt is raw and riveting. If for nothing else, this film is a must-watch to witness the acting chops that Kapoor brings to the table.

An award-winning film that truly saw Kapoor’s potential as one of the greatest actors of our generation, Barfi is a feel-good film that needs to be on everyone’s watch list. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film revolves around Barfi, a young man who suffers from a hearing and a speech impairment, who falls in love with an autistic girl, Jhilmil. Comedic encounters, love traingles, sensitive subjects, this film offers everything and much more with the help of a unique narrative that truly strikes a chord.

One of Kapoor’s earlier projects, this movie focuses on a young man, Raj, who has never taken the women in his life seriously and treats dating like a sport. But when Raj finds himself rejected by the love of his life, he realises how he insensitive he was to the former women in his life. Raj then sets out on a journey to earn forgiveness and make things right with his exes, but it’s not going to be easy. Starring alongside Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu, and Minissha Lamba, Bachna Ae Haseeno is a fun film and perfect to watch on date night.

One of Kapoor’s most-awaited films, Ayan Mukherji’s Brahmāstra: Part One- Shiva is one of the biggest hits of 2022. The movie revolves around Shiva, a young man who falls in love with Isha, but his life soon starts falling apart when he realises that he possesses a power that he just cannot explain. As the two set out on an expedition to know more about his power while also saving the guardians of a secret society, Shivaunravels some life-changing secrets that threaten to destroy the entire world. With a stellar star cast and some superstar cameos, Brahmāstra was definitely worth the wait.
